Following a thorough study and due process, a 2012 decision allowed for
women’s and men’s amateur golf in Utah to officially be governed by one
members of the former Utah Women’s Golf Association the merger of the two
organizations was a success.
The merger created a Women’s Advisory Committee to ensure women
golfers and competitors are represented in measure with men golfers and
competitors. With geographic balance throughout the state, the committee
includes Linda Olsen, Karen Gardiner, Julie McMullin, Mary Herman, Rose
Roberts, Jodi White, Amy Mayberry (UGA Board Member) and staff members
of the UGA. Among other goals, the committee will provide some context and
history of women’s golf in Utah.
The UGA already was working closely with the women’s association by
conducting the Utah Women’s State Amateur and assisting with other events. The
benefit for women golfers involves no longer having to join a separate organization
in addition to paying UGA membership dues for handicapping purposes.
The UGA now conducts four other major events: the State Women’s
Senior Amateur, the Four-Ball, the Spring Open and the Women’s Stroke
Play, with its full-time staff offering easy access to registration and other
