Five teams represented Utah at the 2016 Southwest Team Challenge at Cascata Golf
Club in Boulder City, Nevada. Team 1 consisted of the champions and senior champions
of the 2016 Utah Four-Ball Championship, and Teams 2 and 3 were comprised of
the first-four players eligible on the PPR and SPPR Rankings after the Utah Four-Ball
Following Day 1, Team 2 (Dan Horner, Darrin Overson, Dana Nelson and Brett
Sampson) earned 22 Four-Ball modified Stableford points to place them in second,
three points behind Texas. Team 3 (Cameron Crawford, Ryan Brimley, Patrick Murphy
and Randy Hicken) was close on their heels with 17 points and Team 1 (Tanner Alder,
David Jennings, Guy Child and Kurt Jamison) reeled in 14 points.
Team 3 managed to stay in the game during Day 2 and earned another 17 points to
move up the leaderboard and overtake Team 2’s second-round score of nine points.
Utah Team 5 (Christian Jensen, Brandon Hargett, Mike Jorgensen and Kirk Siddens)
had a slow start with seven points during the first day, but the team remained focused
and determined enough to make a comeback during Day 2 with 16 points, bringing
their two-day total to 23 points.
The third and final round was a race to catch Texas at 52 points. Teams 1 and 5 finished
Day 3 with 7 points each and a tie for sixth place. Team 2 improved after struggling
during the second round and brought in 16 Day 3 points, placing them in third place
with 47 total points. Team 3 played another strong round and added 20 more points
to their two-day, 34-point total. Still, Texas was way ahead of the game with 65 points,
and Utah Team 3 earned the runner-up title with 54 points. Team 4 (Karl Avant, Rafe
Johnston, Bill Probst and Michael Hacker) finished in thirteenth place with - 1 point.
